HIV PRN Focus Session — INSTI It Interesting? An In-Depth Analysis of the First Line ARV Class

Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM CST at Lone Star Ballroom A3

Available for 1.50 hours of CPE credit
Activity Number: 0217-0000-23-140-L02-P
Activity Type: A Knowledge-Based Activity

The focus session developed by the HIV PRN Educational Programming Committee will provide an in-depth analysis of integrase strand transfer inhibitors (INSTIs). Specific topics will include: (1) balancing the benefits and risks associated with INSTI-based regimens (e.g., convenient single tablet regimen vs resistance, cardiometabolic adverse effects, etc.), (2) 2-drug INSTI-based regimens for select populations (e.g., persons of childbearing age, pregnant persons, persons co-infected with HBV), and (3) defining the pharmacists’ role in individualizing and implementing prevention and treatment of HIV with INSTIs.  The target audience is Pharmacists and Pharmacist Trainees across all practice settings that are interested in learning more about the use of INSTIs for prevention and treatment of HIV.  The purpose of this program is to highlight the extraordinary progress made in prevention and treatment of HIV with INSTIs while examining their potential toxicities, appraising their use in select populations, and determining the pharmacists’ role in individualizing and implementing INSTIs for prevention and treatment of HIV.
