The Central Nervous System (CNS) PRN Educational Programming Committee presents an education session focused on the use of psychiatric medications for bipolar disorder in pregnant patients.  Specific topics will include: 1) a discussion of pharmacokinetic and dynamic changes and risk- benefit analysis of utilizing psychiatric medications in pregnant patients with bipolar disorder, 2) a review of current guideline recommendations and recent literature describing the use of psychiatric medications in pregnant patients with bipolar disorder and phase of care considerations, and 3) evidence based recommendations for medication use in bipolar disorder as patients transition through the stages of pregnancy. The target audience of this session is practicing pharmacists, pharmacy residents, pharmacy students, and associated medical professionals. The purpose of this session is to deliver education for an evolving, relevant issue to enhance pharmacist understanding and readiness in application to the clinical setting.

4. Design an evidence-based treatment regimen for a pregnant patient living with a bipolar disorder, balancing risks and benefits for both mother and fetus.
5. Create an appropriate therapeutic monitoring plan across the continuum of pregnancy.
