The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the value of obtaining current and accurate information and conveying this changing information to a population with heterogenous backgrounds, beliefs, and educational levels. Even prior to the pandemic, the challenge of evaluating the accuracy and trustworthiness of data sources had been growing through the expansion of social media. This session will explore the driving factors and motivations of the public to self-seek sources of medical information, discuss strategies to easily identify unsubstantiated medical beliefs, and provide tools to help patients identify accurate sources for health information. This session will include case vignettes illustrating application in a variety of patient care situations.
