Clinical pharmacists play a critical role in the assessment and management of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Recently published literature has led to significant changes in approach to various aspects of COPD, including the management of risk factors, assessment of disease severity, and approach to pharmacologic management in the chronic and acute settings. These updates have led to major changes to the 2023 Global Initiative for Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease (GOLD) guidelines. It is imperative that pharmacists are educated on these changes, including how these changes impact patient care across many transitions.
