The Endocrine and Metabolism PRN Education Committee presents an education session focused on updates in the management of persons with overweight or obesity. The session will serve as a practical, comprehensive guide to pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic approaches to weight management. Specific topics will include a review of:
- Clinical trial evidence and the use of newer pharmacologic agents for weight loss;
- Clinical trial evidence and recommendations for the implementation of medical devices for weight loss and metabolic surgery; and
- Medication management considerations for patients that have undergone metabolic surgery.
Each presentation will be approximately 30 minutes in length, which will include a 5-minute question and answer session. The target audience for this session is pharmacists, residents, fellows, and students with an interest in enhancing their knowledge of weight management options for persons with overweight or obesity. The primary purpose of this session is to educate and summarize updates in clinical practice guidelines and medication use to help clinicians feel more comfortable managing persons with overweight or obesity as we move towards a comprehensive cardiometabolic approach to the management of these conditions.
