Complementary Medicine in 2024 and Conversations About Vitamins With Patients

Tuesday, October 15, 2024 from 10:15 AM to 11:45 AM MST

Available for 1.50 hours of CPE credit
Activity Number: 0217-0000-24-101-L01-P
Activity Type: An Application-Based Activity

Accompanying greater access to information through the widely available internet comes increasing access to non-conventional medical recommendations and the unguided use of vitamins. Pharmacists, as the most accessible healthcare practitioners, must be adequately informed of the safety and efficacy of alternative treatment modalities and the evidence behind vitamins for therapeutic relief. This program aims to critically evaluate the evidence for the use of vitamins in clinical practice, differentiate between data and dogma, and discuss differences in regulations and concerns about toxicities. This session also aims to review Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) and how to discuss alternative therapies with patients. Regulatory oversight of CAM and vitamins will be discussed.
