BCACP/BCGP Clinical Session: A New Day in Diabetes Control for the Older Adult? Using Newer Medications Across the Continuum of Care

Monday, October 14, 2024 from 9:45 AM to 11:15 AM MST

Available for 1.50 hours of CPE credit
Activity Number: 0204-9999-24-324-L01-P
Activity Type: An Application-Based Activity

The evidence and practical considerations for the use of diabetes medications in older adults remains scant, and a true weighing of the risk-vs-benefit calculation in this population has not been elucidated, especially for those who have cognitive and functional deficits. This interactive, case-based session will follow an older adult with diabetes as they transition from being an independent, community-dwelling individual to needing additional support and moving to assisted living and long-term care. Attendees will learn appropriate goals of care for their older adult patient with diabetes, pitfalls, evidence, and appropriate use of diabetes pharmacotherapy, with a focus on the use of newer medications, as well as practical solutions for avoiding common issues when these older adults transfer from one care setting to another.

This activity is approved for Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist (BCACP) and Board Certified Geriatric Pharmacist (BCGP) recertification credit.

The BCACP/BCGP Clinical Sessions are part of the professional development program for the recertification of board-certified Ambulatory Care and Geriatric pharmacists by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties and jointly provided by ACCP and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP). In order to earn the BCACP/BCGP recertification credit, participants must attend the session, claim the continuing pharmacy education credit, and pass the associated posttest. Access to the BCACP/BCGP Clinical Sessions posttests will be available on December 18, 2024, at www.accp.com/myaccount to anyone who has purchased access to the BCACP or BCGP posttests. For participants who have not purchased access to the posttest, access can be purchased until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15, at the ACCP Registration Desk. The deadline to submit posttests for these sessions will be December 16, 2025.
