Improving Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health in Pharmacy

Monday, October 14, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM MST

Available for 1.50 hours of CPE credit
Activity Number: 0217-0000-24-104-L04-P
Activity Type: An Application-Based Activity

It is recognized that healthcare disparities play a role in the care patients receive and these contribute to differences in outcomes. Social determinants of health impact the level of care received and access to care. Medication access can further be delayed or impacted by the prior authorization process. Prescription insurance prior authorizations serve as an important tool to guide economical access to medications. However, these restrictions at times may contribute to inefficiencies in access to care and limit access to evidence-based medications. The goal of this session is to review best practices for health equity, social determinants of health, and navigate the prior authorization process and review the effects of these items on patients, clinicians, and the healthcare system.
