Available for 1.50 hours of CPE credit
Activity Number: 0217-0000-24-121-L99
Activity Type: A Knowledge-Based Activity
In light of the recently retracted articles from Sage Publishers and Dan Farber Cancer Institute, this session will focus on fabricated and manipulated content and its ripple effect across all areas of patient care and regulatory affairs. Sharing information across various platforms has become quicker and more accessible. It is challenging to assess the reliability and credibility of data sources due to the widespread use of social media platforms. The speakers will discuss a multifaceted approach to counter misinformation, which involves practical applications in pharmacy education, practice, research and patient education. There is a pivotal role of building strong patient relationships especially with underserved and vulnerable population leveraging communication strategies, shared decision-making, and motivational interviewing. Pharmacists promote awareness regarding any change in the healthcare landscape and updates in literature such as retracted articles. Furthermore, the session will address the benefits of pharmacists establishing a credible online presence, including social media, to counteract misinformation on digital platforms empowering patients and healthcare providers in both preventing misinformation and correcting its impact. Additionally, the session will explore the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in combating or contributing to misinformation.
