Bauman Retiring After 2024 as JACCP Editor-in-Chief

Call for applicants for JACCP editor-in-chief

The founding editor of the Journal of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (JACCP), Dr. Jerry L. Bauman, will retire at the end of 2024. Bauman has served as editor-in-chief since the journal’s inception in 2017 and its first issue in October 2018. He and the Pharmacotherapy Publications, Inc. (PPI) Board of Directors assembled an associate editorial council and editorial board that have established JACCP as the home for clinical pharmacy practice research and reviews.

Bauman’s career in clinical pharmacy practice and research positioned him for success as JACCP editor-in-chief (EIC). Bauman is Dean Emeritus of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Pharmacy and Distinguished Professor of Pharmacy Emeritus at UIC. He also served as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Provost at UIC and Vice President for Health Affairs for the University of Illinois system. Bauman’s area of research is the clinical pharmacology of cocaine and drugs used to treat cardiac rhythm disorders, specifically their ability to paradoxically provoke life-threatening arrhythmias. Bauman was elected as both fellow of the American College of Cardiology (as the first Pharm.D. fellow) and Fellow of ACCP and was recognized as a distinguished practitioner/scholar in the National Academy of Practice (in its inaugural pharmacy class). He has served the College as an active member, ACCP , and scientific editor of Pharmacotherapy.

Under Bauman’s leadership, JACCP quickly grew to monthly publication and has sustained submissions of greater than 300 per year. JACCP was developed in response to the demand for dissemination of clinical pharmacy practice–based science, and increasing full-text downloads and citations of JACCP manuscripts attest to the journal’s accomplishment.

The PPI Board of Directors is now seeking candidates for the EIC position of JACCP. The successful candidate will be a nationally recognized clinical pharmacy researcher and scholar with a proven and sustained publication record in peer-reviewed journals and experience as a reviewer, editorial board member, and assistant or associate editor for biomedical journals.

The EIC leads and manages the peer-review, decision-making, manuscript invitation and acquisition, and editing processes while maintaining high ethical, scientific, and publication standards. The EIC leads a team of distinguished associate editors, guest editors, and editorial staff in support of PPI’s mission to improve human health through the dissemination of pharmacotherapeutic and clinical pharmacy scholarship. The EIC guides the development of each issue of the journal and participates as an ex officio, nonvoting member of the PPI Board of Directors.

The EIC position is funded as an independent contract at 0.30 of a full-time equivalent position. The position will begin no later than January 1, 2025, with onboarding activities in late 2024. Interested candidates should review the position description and submit a letter of interest and curriculum vitae to Keri Sims ([email protected]) no later than January 15, 2024.
