Taiwan Chapter Hosts First Business Meeting and Conference

ACCP Taiwan Chapter Meeting

ACCP’s newest chapter, the Taiwan Chapter of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, held its first business meeting and clinical pharmacy videoconference on January 30 in Taipei. The Taiwan Chapter was officially approved by the ACCP Board of Regents on July 23, 2020. Taiwan is ACCP’s 19th regional chapter and its third international chapter.

Founding officers of the chapter include president Hsiang-Yin (Shawn) Chen, Pharm.D., M.S., vice dean; and secretary-treasurer Elizabeth H. (Liz) Chang, Pharm.D., Ph.D., chair, Clinical Pharmacy, both from the College of Pharmacy at Taipei Medical University. President Chen expressed appreciation for the organizing efforts that led to the chapter’s formation:

We would like to thank the hardworking chapter members and ACCP staff in establishing the new chapter. As an ACCP chapter, we will strive to provide the best educational and networking opportunities for ACCP members in Taiwan. We also look forward to participating and supporting ACCP initiatives by extending the frontiers of clinical pharmacy worldwide.

Among the honorary guests at last month’s chapter meeting in Taipei were Jackson Wu, Vice President of Taipei Medical University (TMU), Jing-Ping Liou, Dean of TMU College of Pharmacy, and Yow-Wen Hsieh, President of Taiwan Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Over 40 members attended the first business meeting in person, and over 200 participants joined the clinical pharmacy videoconference in the afternoon, co-hosted by the Department of Pharmacy of Wan Fang Hospital. Specialist pharmacist practice, education, and research were highlights of the videoconference, and distinguished speakers were invited from the United States, Singapore, and Taiwan.

ACCP Executive Director Michael S. Maddux commented on the new chapter and its initial activities:

ACCP is pleased to welcome Taiwan as its 19th regional chapter and the College’s first chapter in East Asia. We look forward to involving Taiwanese clinical pharmacy practitioners, researchers, educators, students, and trainees in the College’s many activities. The launch of this new chapter reflects ACCP’s ongoing efforts to support the development of clinical pharmacy worldwide.
